Croydon 2.03 V Tara 2.09

A re-run of the Senior Championship Camogie final took place in Poulter Park, Mitcham last Saturday between Tara Camogie London and Croydon. This time however it was clear that Croydon were out for revenge having lost the Championship final in July allowing Tara to make it 3 in a row.

Out of the starting blocks like rockets Croydon clearly had the bit between their teeth and immediately put Taras defence under severe pressure. Commendable work by forwards Anne Browne and Anne Dempsey saw Croydon put the first two points on the board.

Slowly Tara's began to settle with Trojan work in the centre of the field by Meabh Brennan and Helen Murphy. A quick pass to Angela Kenneally saw the sliotar quickly worked up the right wing to corner forward Donna Gallery who quickly found the back of the net. This goal was largely the difference between the two sides at half time with the score being 0-6 to 1-4 in Tara's favour.

Sterling work by Croydon's backs Sarah Butler and Elaine Dunphy largely stemmed the Tara onslaught in the second half and by adding an extra player to midfield by pulling Aisling Tuohy from Corner forward Croydon kept the sliotar moving up the field. Tara's goalkeeper Niamh Dolan made some premier league style saves but a could do little against a Croydon fire cracker of a shot gliding past her soon followed by another rebounding off Tara's Susi Gill's shoulder in to the top corner of the Tara net.

Tara's were not going to let Croydon enjoy all the goal glory however and Tara's Grace Hamilton and Yvonne Donnelly worked the left wing of the field well only for Joni Traynor at the end of a Tara strike to be deemed a square ball.

With point scorers like Denise Gilligan and Angela Kenneally scoring seven of Tara's nine points between them, Tara's brushed off the square ball and finished the game off strongly when Tara's torpedo Joanne Hamilton split the Croydon defence and punctured the back of the Croydon net. With a final score line of 2-03 to 2-09 in Tara's favour Tara retain their Senior League title making it a clean sweep of senior silverware in London.
